The Concept: Tasked with remixing an original beat provided by my instructor, my objective was to reimagine the arrangement while preserving its core drum and bass energy. I wanted to establish a smooth, melodic soundscape that transformed the static beat into a dynamic journey, showcasing my creative direction and ability to tell a story through sound.
The Process: Working within Ableton, I focused heavily on blending the instructor's original rhythmic elements with my own bespoke melodies. To guide the listener through the track, I engineered custom transitions that highlighted different moments and prevented the energy from stagnating. I purposefully introduced a distinct chorus melody to provide a clear structural anchor, ensuring the final polished piece felt cohesive and intentionally designed.
The Challenge: The primary hurdle was giving the remix a definitive sense of narrative structure. Instead of just looping sounds and stacking layers, I had to carefully balance the atmospheric pads with the hard hitting drums. It required precise volume automation and EQ to ensure my new melodic layers glued seamlessly with the high energy drum and bass framework without muddying the mix.
